Construction Jobs in Poland for Foreign Workers (2026)

PolandPoland

Poland has quietly become one of Europe's biggest importers of construction labour. Its own workers often head west, while Polish sites - housing, logistics parks, energy and huge infrastructure like rail and port projects - are increasingly built by workers from Ukraine, Belarus, Central Asia and South Asia. Wages are lower than in Western Europe, but the permit system is comparatively fast, and Polish experience is a recognised stepping stone.

Trades in demand

  • Formwork carpenters (ciesle szalunkowi) and rebar fixers (zbrojarze) - chronically short on concrete-frame projects
  • Concrete workers and masons
  • Finishing trades (plasterers, tilers) on the housing boom
  • Groundworkers and machine operators on road, rail and energy projects

The permit route

EU/EEA citizens work freely. For non-EU workers Poland offers two main tools. The declaration of entrusting work (oswiadczenie) is a fast-track registration available to citizens of certain countries, letting you work while longer-term papers are processed. The standard route is the type A work permit, applied for by the employer at the voivodeship office, usually paired with a national D visa or a temporary residence and work permit (the combined "zezwolenie jednolite"). Processing times vary a lot by region. Recent reforms digitalised applications and tightened checks on fake employers - which is good news for genuine workers. See our overview of EU work permits and visas for how Polish residence relates to the rest of the EU.

Pay in zloty: realistic ranges

As a rough 2026 guide, general construction labourers typically earn around PLN 4,800 to 6,000 gross per month (the statutory minimum sits near the bottom of that range), while skilled formwork carpenters, rebar fixers and machine operators often make roughly PLN 6,500 to 9,000, with overtime common. In euros that is modest - roughly 1,100 to 2,100 - but Polish living costs outside Warsaw are correspondingly low, and shared worker housing is often arranged. Always confirm whether quoted rates are gross or net and on what contract type: an employment contract (umowa o prace) carries far better protections than a civil contract (umowa zlecenie).

Safety requirements

Poland requires documented BHP training (initial and periodic occupational health and safety instruction) plus a medical fitness certificate before you start - employers must arrange and pay for both. There is no national site card, but tickets for excavators, telehandlers and cranes (UDT qualifications) are checked and are valuable to hold.

Posted worker vs direct employment

Many Polish firms post workers to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Scandinavia - legally, posted workers must then receive the host country's core pay with an A1 certificate. If you take a Polish job partly for that path, verify the employer's posting record. Directly employed workers in Poland build up local social insurance and residence rights. And never pay a recruiter for the job itself - legitimate Polish employers charge workers nothing for an offer.

Where the work is and how housing runs

Warsaw is the deepest market, followed by Krakow, Wroclaw, the Tricity ports and Lodz; the giant central airport project (CPK) and its rail spokes, Baltic offshore-wind ports and energy projects are expected to soak up crews for years. Employers and agencies routinely arrange worker housing - typically shared rooms at PLN 600 to 900 monthly deducted from pay - which keeps costs manageable but means you should see the housing terms in writing before signing the work contract. Site language is Polish, but Ukrainian and Russian are so widespread that mixed crews function easily; English works mainly with larger international contractors.

Practical steps and choosing a legitimate employer

After arrival you need a PESEL number for tax purposes and registration with ZUS (social insurance) by your employer - a payslip without ZUS contributions means you are working illegally, whatever you were told. Recruitment agencies must be entered in the national KRAZ register; checking it takes minutes and filters out most bad actors, and remember that charging workers for job offers is illegal. Keep your residence paperwork moving: gaps between permits are the most common trap for non-EU workers in Poland, so file renewals early and keep every stamped confirmation. Finally, invest in UDT machine qualifications while you are there - Polish tickets for excavators, telehandlers and hoists are affordable, exams are frequent, and they travel well when Western European employers later come recruiting.

This is general information, not legal advice. Check the Polish Office for Foreigners (gov.pl/web/udsc) and your local voivodeship office for current permit rules.
