Diesel Plant Fitter / Construction Plant Mechanic Location: Dublin & Donegal (Field & Workshop Based) Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent Salary: €48,000 - €60,000 per annum (DOE) Hours: 45-hour work week Key Responsibilities Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and inspections on heavy plant and construction machinery. Diagnose faults across diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components. Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, pumps, and hydraulic equipment. Respond to breakdowns and undertake field-service repairs at customer sites. Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and job sheets. Prepare machinery for hire, deployment, or operational use. Work effectively in both workshop and field environments. Ensure all work complies with Irish health and safety regulations and industry standards. Support and mentor junior fitters and apprentices when required. Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach during site visits. Requirements Relevant trade qualification such as Plant Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Plant Mechanic, or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years' experience within a plant, HGV, construction equipment, or heavy machinery environment. Strong technical knowledge of: Diesel engines Hydraulic systems Diagnostics and fault finding Mechanical repair and maintenance Full clean driving licence. Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Good communication skills and a professional attitude. Good level of spoken and written English. Desirable Skills & Experience Experience working on construction, quarry, or earthmoving equipment. Welding and fabrication experience. Familiarity with diagnostic software and telematics systems. Previous experience in a field service environment.
