Truck Driver Jobs in Denmark for Foreign Drivers (2026)

Denmark sits on the land bridge between Scandinavia and continental Europe, and Danish hauliers move everything from wind-turbine components to pork exports and ferry-linked freight to Sweden and Norway. The industry has warned about driver shortages as older drivers retire, but Denmark is also honest territory: its immigration system is one of the tighter ones in Europe for this profession, so you should understand the route before investing time.
The permit route: SIRI schemes
Work permits for non-EU citizens are handled by SIRI, the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration. The two schemes that matter most:
- Positive List for Skilled Work - a periodically updated list of shortage occupations for which permits are granted with a job offer meeting Danish terms. Whether professional drivers appear on the current list changes over time; check the live list on nyidanmark.dk before planning anything.
- Pay Limit Scheme - open to any occupation but with a high minimum annual salary threshold that ordinary driver wages usually do not reach, so it rarely fits trucking.
The realistic path is therefore a Danish employer hiring you under the Positive List when drivers are listed, with pay and conditions matching Danish collective agreements - SIRI checks this. For how such employer-driven processes work generally, see how EU employer sponsorship works.
Licence and professional qualification
You need C or CE with the EU professional qualification (Code 95); in Denmark the qualification certificate (chaufoeruddannelsesbevis) is administered under the Danish Road Traffic Authority (Faerdselsstyrelsen).
- Heavy-vehicle licences from most non-EU countries cannot be directly exchanged; expect Danish theory and practical tests unless your country has a special agreement. Rules differ for category B, so do not assume a car-licence exchange means your CE transfers too.
- The basic qualification plus 35 hours of periodic training every five years follows the standard EU model, through approved AMU training centres.
- Danish employers frequently use the AMU adult vocational training system to upskill drivers, sometimes at little cost to the employee.
Pay: high, and protected by agreements
Denmark has no statutory minimum wage; pay is set by collective agreements, and in trucking the 3F transport union agreements dominate. As a rough 2026 guide, gross monthly pay for truck drivers typically lands around 28,000 to 36,000 DKK (very roughly 3,700 to 4,800 euros) including common supplements, with export/long-haul and specialised work higher. Danish taxes are substantial, so compare net figures carefully. As always these are hedged estimates - the collective agreement rates are the real reference, and SIRI will expect your offer to match them.
Domestic vs international
Domestic distribution covers the retail networks around Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and the Jutland corridor, usually home-daily. International work runs south into Germany and onward, and north via ferries and the Oeresund bridge. Specialities with strong demand include refrigerated transport for food exports, ADR fuel work and oversized transport for the wind industry.
Cost of living
Denmark is expensive - Copenhagen rents especially. Jutland towns near transport hubs like Kolding, Vejle and Padborg (a major trucking hub on the German border) offer far cheaper living. Workplace English is widely understood, but Danish helps and is expected over time.
Standard warning: nobody legitimate charges workers for a job offer or permit. Danish authorities actively pursue social dumping in transport, which is good news for legally hired foreign drivers.
How to position yourself for Denmark
Because the Danish door opens and closes with the Positive List, treat Denmark as one option in a Nordic strategy rather than the only target. Build a profile that works across the region: documented CE experience by vehicle type and tonnage, ADR or refrigerated specialisation, winter driving evidence, and reference letters in English. Danish employers who do recruit abroad tend to be larger firms around the Jutland corridor and the Padborg hub with experience of SIRI paperwork - they know the process, so ask directly how many international hires they have completed. If drivers are off the list when you look, Germany immediately south uses a different, driver-specific route for the same skills.
