What the work involves

In order to work in Ireland a non-EEA National, unless they are exempted, must hold a valid employment permit. Please review the Eligibility and requirements for an employment permit if you are unsure of your eligibility to apply for this vacancy. We operate a highly progressive, fast-paced commercial dairy enterprise with 800 crossbred cows across two geographically separate farm blocks in Co. Waterford. We are seeking an individual to fill the role of Dairy Farm Assistant. Please note that this is an intensive, physically demanding role in a remote rural environment. The position requires a strict roster system that includes mandatory early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holiday shifts. Core Duties & Work Environment: Early Morning Milking Operations: Executing daily milking procedures starting at 5:00 AM sharp, maintaining strict hygiene and herd movement protocols. Livestock Care & Intensive Calving Support: Assisting with calf rearing, intensive feeding, tagging, and monitoring herd health indicators under the farm plan. Grassland Management: Conducting weekly manual grass measurements and field pacing to update farm feeding plans. Outdoor Manual Labour: Performing routine farm maintenance, fencing, power-washing, and yard cleaning in all outdoor seasonal weather conditions. Strict Candidate Prerequisites: Reliable Transport: Due to the early 5:00 AM start times and the remote, rural location of the farm units in Co Waterford, candidates must have access to their own reliable private transport. Public transport is not available to these locations. Roster Flexibility: Total availability to work a rotating roster that includes weekends and public holidays is non-negotiable. Physical Fitness: The role involves continuous lifting, walking, and heavy manual handling outdoors. Core Competencies: High level of reliability, honesty, absolute punctuality, and the ability to follow strict livestock safety protocols. Benefits: On-site parking available. To be considered for this position, applicants must submit a fully updated CV alongside a detailed cover letter explaining their specific interest in large-scale spring calving operations. Incomplete applications or applications missing a cover letter will not be reviewed.
